Tilly's Farm is a family owned livestock farm at Mlolo Trom near Somanya in the Lower Manye Krobo District of the Eastern Region of Ghana, that is engaged in the rearing of pigs to provide the local Ghanaian market with premium quality lean pork. We believe the farm presents us with an opportunity to contribute towards boosting our local economy while contributing to a balanced diet and safeguarding Ghana’s agro-biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources. TF seeks to become a hub and out-grower pig farming operation that will include all aspects from rearing the pigs, to slaughter, butchery, and processing and marketing of high quality pork products. The farm seeks to produce and source pigs from smallholder pig farmers to market to processors and retailers in urban areas. TF aims at implementing specific policies aimed at social protection and wellbeing of its immediate community like our Youth-In-Piggery project. Operations The farm intensively rears pigs on a mixed farm where we grow maize on a portion of the farmland. All our pigs on the farm are raised up to slaughter weight in an indoor housing system; grower pigs and weaned pigs of similar ages and gender are kept in groups pigs are housed indoors in groups, whilst pregnant sows are housed in separate pens to give birth. We currently have a Farrow-to-Finish operation; farrow-to-finish involves breeding and farrowing sows, and feeding the offspring until they reach a desired market weight. This includes all phases of pig production: breeding, gestation, farrowing, lactation, weaning, and subsequently growing the pigs to market. We will be running a Feeder-to-Finish operation along with our current setup by buying weaned pigs weighing 15 to 20 Kg and feed them to desired market weight as part of our Youth-In-Piggery project and also to help us maximize our cash flow as part of our main operations.
