The Uppsala Monitoring Center (UMC) is the parent organisation of the Uppsala Monitoring Center-Africa (UMC-A). The Uppsala Monitoring Center is the field name for the WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring. UMC’s priorities are the safety of patients and the safe and effective use of medicines in every part of the world. Our job at UMC-A is to help ensure the safety of patients and the safe and effective use of medicines in Africa. Based in Accra, Ghana, UMC-A is committed to the support of everyone in Africa who wants to take active part in the WHO Medicines Safety Programme to ensure that their national medicines safety systems are working well. UMC-A aims to become the hub of an African network of health professionals helping and supporting one another with the vision of improving the health and safety of patients across the continent. SERVICES - Provide general pharmacovigilance (PV) support to countries to become active in the WHO Medicines Safety Programme (WHO-MSP) - Support Associate Members to become Full Members of the WHO-MSP - Train personnel in African countries on the Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR)/Individual Case Safety Report (ICSR) data management software such as VigiFlow - To improve the ADR spontaneous reporting systems in Africa by training staff of national PV centres - Provide training in various aspects of PV for health professionals in Africa - Build capacity of staff of national PV centres and other relevant organizations
